Biden Visits the Golf Course for the First Time in Presidency
President Joe Biden hit the golf course for the first time since he was sworn in as president. The unannounced visit on Saturday took many local golfers by surprise.
Surprised, Wilmington Country Club members were seen taking out their smartphones to record the president’s arrival. The 36-hole course is just ten minutes away from Biden’s Delaware home.
According to the White House, the president teed off with his advisor Steve Ricchetti and Ron Olivere. Biden has been planning for the game in recent days. The trip came after a Rose Garden press conference where he hosted Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. During the press conference, he referred Hideki Matsuyama, a Masters Golf Champion where he referred to him as a “Japanese Boy.”
Biden had taken a break for the course a year ago to focus on his presidential campaign. He ventured backed into the course 87 days since his swearing-in. Golf Digest at one time ranked the president among Washington’s top 150 golfers.
Biden will have to commit to more outings to catch up with his predecessors’ enormous appetite for the game. Former President Donald Trump played at least 150 rounds during his own golf courses in Virginia, New Jersey, and Florida. President Obama played more than 300 times during his two terms in office.
