Former World No. 1 Yani Tseng Becomes the Latest Player to be Disqualified After Failing to Sign Her Scorecard

Yan Tseng, the Former World No. 1 and five-time major winner, made headlines with her return to this season’s LGPA after failing to participate on tour since the 2019 Lotter Championship. The fifteen-time champion is yet to succeed in her four starts in 2021. This extends a run that goes back to the Swinging Skirts LPGA Championship in Taiwan, which took place in 2018. Her lowest score is 75, with a shocking scoring average of 80.25.

Tseng hit another hurdle on Wednesday when she was disqualified after the opening round of the Hugel-Air Premia Open in LA. According to an LPGA official who spoke to us, she failed to sign a scorecard after the first round.

“The mistake was noted during the regular standard review procedure after every round, where it was established that she had ignored to sign her scorecard,” an LPGA official said through text. Rule 3.3b (2) states that a player is responsible for making sure that their handicap is shown on their scorecard. Tseng breached that rule.

The LPGA was unable to verify Tseng’s actual score but indicated it was in the 80s.

The second time in this season’s LPGA and the third time in five months where a player has been disqualified for failing to sign a scorecard as per Rule 3.3b(2). Chinas Yu Liu was disqualified for failing to sign her scorecard after the first round in last November’s Pelican Women’s Championship. Gee Chun was unable to do so after the second round of the Kia Classic last month, which led to her disqualification. The South Korean professional golfer and a two-time major winner were leveled for a fourth-place going into the weekend in Carlsbad.
